Sorption of Alizarin Red S and Methylene Blue on Halloysite from Single and Mixed Solutions

The extensive use of synthetic materials in modern society presents a great challenge to environmental and water quality. As such, numerous studies were dedicated the removal emerging contaminants from using novel as sorbents or catalysts. With large reserves low material costs, Earth has also attracted attention for contaminant removal. Halloysite is 1:1 layered clay mineral with moderate cation exchange capacity that can be used cationic contaminants. On other hand, it may bear positive charges on aluminum hydroxyl sheets, could remove anionic In this study, dye, methylene blue (MB), an alizarin red S (ARS), was evaluated single mixed solutions. results suggested solutions, MB via while ARS have originated anion exchange. From their mutually increased, which due synergistic effect presence type charged dyes serving counterions enhance sorption opposite charges. This finding suggests halloysite serve sorbent organic different at same time, new perspective needs further evaluation expansion.
